Hummus of your choice ( I used 30 oz classic hummus )
1chopped small onion
3tbspolive oil divided+extra to drizzle on top
1/2tspblack pepper
1/4tspcinnamon
1/2 tspsalt
pinch of grated nutmeg
1/4tspground cardamom
1/2tsppaprika
1/4cup cashew nuts
2tbspchopped parsley
Homemade Pita Chips
2small pita bread
2tbspolive oil
1tspkosher salt
1tbspdried thyme
Instructions
Homemade Pita Chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside.
Using a bread knife or scissors, cut the pita bread in small size cubes.
Transfer to the prepared baking tray. Add the olive oil, salt and thyme and combine it well using your hands.
Spread the pita chips into one layer and bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let them cool.
Frying the ground beef and Assembling
Start by spreading the hummus in a serving plate and smoothing the top using the back of a tablespoon. Set aside.
Meanwhile, in a medium frying pan over low-medium heat, add one tablespoon olive oil and fry the cashew nuts until golden and set aside.
Heat the remaining olive oil (2 tbsp) in the same pan where you fried the cashew nuts then add the ground beef.
When the beef starts browning, start breaking it into pieces, add the chopped onion, spices, salt and continue cooking until all the beef pieces are cooked through evenly by stirring occasionally.
Immediately transfer the ground beef over the prepared hummus platter, add the cashew nuts, a drizzle of olive oil and garnish with chopped parsley.
Serve with the prepared homemade pita chips and enjoy!
Notes
Cashew nuts can be replaced by any nuts of your choice such as pine nuts or sliced/ slivered almonds or it can be omittedĀ
