Tart Cherry Syrup
This Homemade syrup will brighten up pancakes, waffles, French toast, ice cream, yogurt … The perfect balance of sweet and tangy syrup with a vibrant and deep ruby red color!
Ingredients
- 2 cups tart cherry concentrate (100% tart cherries)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup frozen dark cherries or fresh cherries
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/3 tsp ginger powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne powder
Instructions
- In a small saucepan or non-stick frying pan, combine the tart cherry juice with the sugar and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over medium-heat.
- Lower temperature to medium-low and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes until syrup starts thickening and achieve the right consistency. At this stage the syrup should coat the spoon or spatula.
- Add the frozen cherries, cinnamon, ginger and cayenne pepper and simmer for 2 to 3 more minutes.
- Remove and cool to room temperature.
- Use immediately or store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
